When Saying NO Is The Best Thing To Do

The day when we become freelancers or entrepreneurs, we get excited. So excited, that we will do everything to put our name out there. No, it’s not a sin. It’s just that sometimes, we don’t know how to say NO even if we are about to over burn.

This is one reality that many of us have experienced in the past. Our ass got bitten by it and challenged our reputation. Before this happens, learn to say NO or better yet, shout!

When Should You Say NO

Projects are revenues and revenues are source of our budget. We all understand this simple mathematics. But accepting projects way beyond what we can handle is a definite NO. Yes, we are passionate about what we do and that includes being passionate with our life beyond our desk.

Saying yes to everything that comes forward to us will just exhaust our body. If we over use it, it will get tired and we might not accomplish what is expected of us.

Let’s be true to ourselves. If it’s something that we haven’t done before, think twice. You really don’t want doing experiments with a client’s project especially those with tight deadlines and budgets.

Why Saying NO Is The Best Thing To Do

It preserves our integrity and it shows people how honest we are. There will be frustrating times that we want to get certain clients and came at the wrong time when your hands were full but saying NO and explaining why you decline might add more to your credibility.

Don’t push it. We all know our capabilities and going beyond that, thinking that we can make it, doesn’t make us risk-takers. It’s just plain old stupidity.

But we can’t just let business go home empty-handed. If you are well connected then…

Shout

You might know a friend who’s doing the same business that you have. Be generous to refer or suggest others they can consider. This works well with people who have a different description for competitors. You won’t look dorky if you will ask for help. Just shout and your friends will be there for you.

This entire process is a bridge that can create long-lasting business relationships. You’re not human if you don’t understand the logic behind this.

Part of this was from my experience in the past, when I was still starting and now that I shared my part, I want to hear about your story. Care to share your thoughts?
