How many times have you written something for the sake of getting a conversation started as opposed to just stating what you have in mind? Personally, I haven’t the slightest idea. But what I think is that the availability of different tools that allow us to express our ideas has created a culture of being outspoken and opinionated.
It’s not necessarily wrong to be opinionated. It is but natural for every person to have his or her own standpoint in any given issue, after all. However, oftentimes we are no longer aware that what we’re writing is no longer conducive to exchanging ideas.
There are even instances where the post is too strongly expressed that people who wish to share their own thoughts on the matter feel apprehensive to jump in and get a conversation rolling.
The same passion that fuels our creativity in writing can also be the deterrent that blocks the flow of conversation. Is that a bad thing? I’m really not sure. What do you think?
I’d like to think that I’m initiating conversations or discussions with what I write. But then again, only the readers can gauge that because they are the ones who are replying or commenting back on my posts.
What about you? Have you asked yourself if you’re simply a commentator or a conversation starter?
