I’m a big fan of Iron Man. Every guy wants to be like Tony Stark, cool, rich, witty and everything in between. We content creators have this wish hidden at the bottom of our brain that we want to be the Tony Stark of the web. Yes? No?
Yep, can’t blame you on that one. If you watched Iron Man 2, Tony Stark said something about legacy that really made me think about our content in the web. Many of us still think that our content is all about us, our audience, our “celebrity” status, our name or a reflection of what we do. Is it?
Or is it not? Content legacy, is not about us or our audience. It’s about the next generation of content creators and their audience. How they look at our content and how they understand it will determine the future of web content.
The things is, I see so many bloggers out there who creates content just because it’s the latest thing to do, write content because it’s on the latest trend or just ride the band-wagon so that they won’t be identified as people who were left behind. Nobody wants to be left behind but at least, for content’s sake, focus on quality and compelling content.
So, how to be the Tony Stark of web content?
Create Compelling Content – There are various methods in creating compelling content. The overall criterion for this is to put relevant ideas in your content. Make it meaty. Tony Stark’s work amazes not only his fans but executives. But for starters, create ideas that evolved around:
- Entertainment – YouTube will not be successful if we don’t love entertainment. A large percentage of internet users go to the web to be entertained. It’s their water cooler.
- Information – Another segment of netizens are information consumer. It may evolved around their work, hobby or for the sake of staying informed with the latest trends.
- Call To Action – Help raise awareness or support advocacies for a good cause. I love 12for12K, a group founded by one of the people I salute in the field of Social Media, Danny Brown.
Know, Understand and Learn More – After knowing the basics of your content, what’s next? You cannot be an authority in something if you stopped at the basics. In Iron Man 2, Tony was trying to figure out a way to improve his chest plate. He explored different methods to advance it and to his surprised, an old model of the Stark Expo revealed the answers.
Keep In Mind The Future – Successful people are forward-looking. They try to imagine how the future would look like from their perspective. From these views, they create their legacy. From a content creator’s point-of-view, legacy is something that will raise the bar higher for future content creators. If your content is so vague, you are teaching vague information to your audience. Can you see our responsibility here?
Still want to be the Tony Stark of web content? Some may say that it’s hard and some will say it’s easy. How we do it is not the point here but the goal of raising the bar in content creation. How will you do it? How do you want your content be remembered? You know what; we have the comment section below. Let’s share our ideas.
