Thanks to the sudden rise of social media’s functionality in the field of marketing and promotion of products and services, a lot of people think that they can now drop the traditional marketing strategies and just invest on the current trend.
But people who think like that are dead wrong. Social media will never completely replace conventional marketing techniques. Not by a long shot.
The first and main reason why it can’t is because not everyone is into the social media hype. Not everyone can be reached by your efforts to spread the word via social media. It is those people that you’ll still need the traditional advertising techniques for.
And in as much as we can use blogs and other social media platforms to call the attention of online shoppers, it would still take a degree of conventional marketing skills to convert them into actual buyers.
One good thing to keep in mind when using social media for marketing, though, is to never mix your community with your target market. Community members will cross over on their own accord. Don’t drag them over to the other side of the fence, so to speak.
Just remember that social media is your channel to get your message across, but it won’t be your primary sales generator. It will occasionally bring in sales, but not a big chunk of it.
I’d like to know if you agree or disagree with me on this one, though. Let’s exchange ideas and opinions over at the comments section.
