The World Wide Web is teeming with marketing opportunities waiting to be discovered, and social media is one that is the most popular right now. You would do well to consider incorporating social media marketing strategies into your business, reaping the countless benefits it has to offer.
However, you have to ask yourself one important question before you get into drafting your social media marketing strategy: Is it really the answer you’re looking for?
I could think of a dozen or more reasons to convince you that social media is the answer. But then again, I could also cite a few reasons for you not to even waste your time trying out social media.
1. If you have no target audience, who are you supposed to be reaching out to. Who’s going to follow you if no one’s talking about your chosen niche?
2. Ask yourself, when has doing something half-heartedly ever get you farther than doing something with all your efforts. If you plan to do social media marketing with half-baked efforts, you might as well not start it.
3. Viral videos are born, not forced. If you’re doing social media marketing for the sake of becoming viral, stop and drop the effort. Even if you have all the working elements of a viral campaign, you can’t control how people would (or wouldn’t) react to your social media efforts.
4. If you’re not ready yet, why rush? You increase your margin for error if you jump into doing social media marketing when you’re clearly not well-versed with the tricks of the trade. Take the time to learn the ropes of social media marketing before you jump into the fire. It’ll save you the hassle of cleaning up after the mess you might make while you’re experimenting.
I was hoping you could add a few more items to the list. If you could think of some more reasons why you shouldn’t start a social media marketing strategy, please do share them over at the comments section and let’s talk about it some more.
