You’ll probably agree with me when I say that Twitter is the most popular microblogging site out there right now. Now, you probably think that because of the popularity microblogging is gaining, traditional blogging is slowly fading away.
Wrong!
In fact, blogging is very much alive and is still a thriving culture. Contrary to what a lot of people say about blogging being dead because of short-message updates on microblogs, many still subscribe to the concept of blogging.
In fact, even the most active of Twitter users still keep blogs to this day. They even use Twitter to advertise their respective blogs and websites.
Who said anything about microblogs competing with regular blogs, anyway?
If you use it wisely, microblogs can be used to complement your existing blog. You can use Twitter to direct people to your actual blog site and get them engaged to reading your content in full-length.
If you’re thinking of fighting the microblogging power and imposing your regular blog onto your viewers, you might end up losing them altogether. You have to understand that, like in real life, people in the social media-verse have different places where they’re comfortable in. Engage them where they feel at home and you can get them to check out something outside of the comfort zone.
Instead of thinking of microblogging sites as competitor, think of it as a helpful tool to land audiences from other parts of the World Wide Web. In as much as you’d like to stay true to your original site, doesn’t fight the new trend, but rather accept it and use it to your advantage. There’s nothing wrong with being resilient, just keep an open mind about things and keep up with what’s new, which, in this case, is microblogging.
How about you? Do you think microblogging killed the blog?
