How To Work Around Social Media Marketing Failures

You can easily jump into the social media bandwagon just as easily as you can jump off your bed. However, it doesn’t necessarily guarantee that you’re going to get a smooth landing. Just because you’ve come up with a social media marketing campaign, it doesn’t mean that it’s going to work according to plan.

It can’t be helped. Some campaigns are bound to fail for a variety of reasons. But look on the bright side, there’s always a way to turn things around and salvage that failure into a success.

What are the possible reasons for a social media marketing campaign to fail and what workarounds can you do to fix it?

Lack of faith in the campaign. Surely, if your team doesn’t believe that your strategy will work, how can you get them to give their 100% on working on it? They’ll be distracted, if not uninterested, at the project. How do you get around it? By giving a better pitch for the project. Convince your team that it’s worth the effort and be clear about how important the social media marketing strategy is to the end goal of the company even if it only seems like all fun and games.

Wrong choice of people. Not everybody who has a Facebook account or a MySpace page would know what to market on those websites. Keep that in mind the next time you pick a social media associate. If you get someone who doesn’t understand the ropes of social media marketing and ask them to work on the strategy with you, you can almost expect the plan to fail. How can you avoid this dilemma? By being careful in choosing. Find someone who’s had actual experience in social media marketing, for starters. Expensive as they may come, these people know what to do and they’re good at it, too.

Wrong channel. Just because it’s a popular social media site, it doesn’t mean that it’s the right place for you. This is a common misconception that newbies in the social media industry make. Although Facebook and MySpace are great places to start with because of the sheer mass of it’s following, you have to ask yourself, “Is this where my target audience is?” Your efforts to communicate with your target market will be fruitless if you’re doing it where they’re not.  To avoid this mistake, you have to first find where it is that your crowd is hanging out at. If you can’t find anybody who’s talking about your niche, tough luck. But you can always find related topics to which you can slowly intro your niche to.

Bad content. Your content is basically what you’re using to promote stuff. If you’re writing dull content that don’t even spark the least bit interest from readers, how can you expect people to come back for more or to tell other people about your site? Take out the trash by getting better at writing content. Take time to research on what to write about and how you can write about it in  such a way that it catches attention.

It’s your turn to speak your mind now. What are your thoughts on this matter?
