We’ve been talking about ways to get social media to work to your business’ advantage, right? Keep a blog, put up social media profiles, set up listening posts, the entire shebang. But why do some social media marketing plans still fail even if they do these things. You can say that part to blame in a misunderstanding of what social media really is.
The core of web 2.0 is about socializing on the web – interacting, connecting, and establishing relationships with other people – and some people lose sight of that.
Want to know how you can sink your social media marketing strategies fast? Here are some examples:
Open a blog and don’t bother responding to other people’s comments. The point of opening a blog is to open a channel for conversation with your target market, not to show them that you don’t care what they say.
Always talk about yourself. Seriously, what value can people get from content that revolves around you and your “magnificence”? Unless your story is filled with life lessons that can help your readers, I doubt that there’s any to take in with self-absorbed posts.
Act without thinking. Social media marketing entails careful planning. You’ll need to know where your target demographic lies or what your prospective audience wants to hear. Once you’ve learned all of this, you can draw a rough draft of what you can do for you strategy.
Spread yourself too thin. Just because we say that you should set up profiles in various social media sites, it doesn’t mean that we’re telling you to be equally active in all of them. Think of it as prioritizing primary and secondary sites. There will be some that will bring more traffic or business than others, if you’ve found out which ones these are, focus on them. But don’t forget to visit and update your secondary social media profiles occasionally.
Not listen enough. If there’s anything that will help you in social media marketing, it’s knowing how to listen. You need to keep your ears (or eyes) open to what the public says of you. From there, you get a general idea of how people would react to what you might say or do. You may even get ideas on what you can do to attract more followers.
These are only some of the sure fire ways you can kill your social media marketing plan. I’d like to pass the torch over to you. If you can add more to this list, please do so at the comments section. Let’s talk.
