Twitter is a very popular site these days. It already has millions of members under its belt and yet the number is still growing by the minute. Now, it’s not really that big of a deal that there are lots of Twitter users. It gives you a lot more variety of people to connect and become friends with, after all.
However, the potential problem with Twitter’s growing numbers is finding people who already have Twitter accounts you don’t know of in the site. This is going to be more common in newbie tweeters who want to look for people they know in Twitter.
Now, how can you look for people in Twitter? Here are my top three suggestions:
For one, you can use Twitter’s own people search function. It’s not necessarily at the top of this list, but I’m putting it as the first one because it’s built-in to Twitter. This function uses the “real names” people put in when they sign up and fill out their bio.
So unless your friends put in their real names in their profiles, it’s not going to be of much help. Also, if your friend has a really common name, you may end up faced with a lot of choice and no clue as to which one your friend really is. Not really that thorough a tool to use for looking for friends, but you might want to get started here.
Tweepz is yet another useful search app to use for looking up people you know. It’s only a tad better than Twitter’s own search function because we weren’t really required to produce much of a biographical profile to begin with. But with Tweepz, you can fine tune your search to certain criteria in the bio for the search. You can use certain keywords found in the person’s bio, their name, their location, their job title, and their possible username.
TweepSearch comes a close second to Tweepz. It pretty much functions the same as Tweepz, but with a tad bit of difference – it falls behind the number of Twitter accounts it can crawl onto for searching. It allows you to refine search parameters the same as Tweepz does, but again, with a lesser search scope.
You may have other search applications you use for looking up friends who might have Twitter accounts. Care to share what you’re using?
