Before You Setup A Facebook Fan Page

Before You Setup A Facebook Fan Page

Many of you may have noticed by now that businesses are starting to realize the potential of having a Facebook Fan Page. From small-to-medium-to-enterprise scale businesses, they have that small real estate within Facebook.

Don’t believe me? Try browsing Facebook and search for business names you know and you’ll be surprise that they are there. Simple or flashy they want to be identified in Facebook. But is that the end goal of having a Facebook fan page?

31 Days To Build A Better Blog

I asked several business owners on why they set up a Facebook fan page and most of their answers were pretty much the same. It’s the IN thing for businesses, to be present in Facebook. I won’t argue with that but one thing they forgot to ask is NOW WHAT?

You, the business owner, or your trusted internet marketer may have overlooked creating a list of things to think about before setting up a fan page. No worries, let’s create one here.

Why Do You Need It – Is it to create buzz, awareness, setup a listening channel, conversation outpost, or customer service? There are a lot of ways on how to maximize a facebook fan page. How you want it to evolve depends on why you need it.

Who Will Do It – For small businesses, identifying the person or people who will be involved in maintaining the fan page? And for large scale businesses, the debate continues on who will be responsible for campaigns such as this. Marketing or PR? I say both.

What’s my KPI – For starters, they will always look at the numbers. Whether we like it or not, most of the time, we determined a fan page’s success with the number of fans it has. But that’s not always the case. One of the things I really love of Facebook’s Fan pages is the Insight tool. It has the basic metrics that can help you make your fan page a success. Care to look at post quality? Try focusing on one major KPI before jumping on to the next.

What Will My Content Be – Browse businesses in Facebook. Present right? But boring. One of the stumbling blocks of businesses who have a facebook fan page is content. Thinking too much about creating compelling content sometimes hinders us from keeping the fan page alive. And not having a plan for content publication will hurt us too. Will normal human conversation work? Why not?

The Good and the Bad – To hear praises from loyal customers is awesome but are we ready to listen to unsatisfied customers? What if they start hammering you like a nail? Or what if they tell other customers of their bad experience? It will happen once they know you’re there in the web. Do have a strategy in place to handle this?

Setting up a Facebook fan page is easy. Maintaining it and looking at how it will evolve in the future is another thing. Remember, we’re dealing with people here. These are just basic questions to ask before our fan page goes live. How you answer them will give you a glimpse on how successful it will be. Care to share yours? Let’s talk in the comment section.
