Most, if not all, businesses who use Facebook to gain access to more potential customers have their own fan page. You’ll notice that even though these companies all have fan pages, not all of them achieve the desired results, which is, to have lots of followers.
Why is that?
There are a lot of possible reasons for that. But I think that the presence (or lack thereof) of certain key elements in your Facebook fan page helps increase your fan base or deter its growth.
Networking
You would want your other sites to direct traffic towards your Facebook fan page, too. Simply relying on Facebook’s search function as a means for people to find you is not enough. Try adding a link to the fan page on your original site. That way, you can direct traffic from your original site’s visitor to your Facebook fan page.
Be more than just a connection hub
Take your fan page up a notch by being more than just a site to connect to. Provide your followers with useful information that will make them come back for more and recommend your fan page to others along the way.
Host contests
Now, who doesn’t want to join contests where you can win something useful? Offer discount coupons, promotional items, or holiday specials to Facebook users to encourage them to come back to your site.
Now I’d like to hear from you. What other factors do you think give other people’s fan pages a leg up against other?
