If there’s one thing that I always keep in mind whenever I try to get into something new, it’s that I need all the help I can get. By help, I’m referring to tips and little trade secrets that my mentors and friends hand out to me.
I’d like to pass out a few of those tips with you to help you get started on your social media career path. They sure worked for me, so I’m hoping they’d work out just as effectively with you.
Credibility if your best asset. Work on building your rep first before you start persuading people to avail of your products or services.
Timing is important. You have to know when the time is right to jump into conversations. We observe this in real life, you might as well continue with this etiquette when it comes to online conversations.
Social media is an investment. Although there are lots of tools that are free, you’re still going to have to invest your time into learning the ropes and doing the job. Also, if you wish to go in deeper into the social media business, you’re going to have to get past the free tools.
The community comes first. You’re going to want to engage the community as a person than a marketer. You have to earn people’s trust first before you can get them to hear you out as a marketer.
Mind your content. Although it gives you the opportunity to preach about your own products and services, you have to remember that social media is about people. Find a way to make your content useful to people’s daily lives.
Relationships make social media go around. Like it or not, social media revolves around the relationships we build online, so don’t be afraid to reach out and connect with other people.
Set your goals and move on from there. This could well be the most important tip I got from my social media mentors. Knowing what you want to end up with will make thinking of ways to get there easier.
Got any more tips to add to this list? Why don’t you share them over at the comments section for the benefit of our social media marketing newbies out there? I’m sure they’ll appreciate your input as much as I would.
