With all the news you’ve heard about social media and how it has helped other companies make their business flourish, you’re probably enticed to adapt the same techniques to your own business. If it worked for them, it could work for you.
You can say that. It can happen. But it doesn’t happen to everyone. For other people, they just jumped and there was no safety net, hence they failed. We don’t want that to happen to you now, would we?
If you want to make sure that you don’t get included in the list of those who committed social media suicide, keep these considerations in mind:
- Never go out without a battle plan. Don’t just jump into the social media bandwagon for the heck of it. Learn it first, and then draft a plan. Write a primary and a back-up plan to make sure that your ass is covered for whatever may happen in your endeavor.
- Don’t turn your back on criticism. You may think that they’re just senseless words, but if you ignore them long enough, people will start thinking you don’t care about what they say about you.
- Don’t just patronize your own work. Take the initiative to promote the works of other, too. You’ll find that the more you give love, the more you receive love. And in social media, where things are based on relationships, playing nice with the neighbors can take you places.
- Pay attention to your website. Is it loading slowly? Are the fonts difficult to read? It is important that you take note of these things because this is your “storefront”. If it takes forever to load your blog or you’re using too small a font, how can you expect people to keep coming back?
What about you? Can you add more tips that fellow social media practitioners can use to avoid killing their own social media efforts before they even get somewhere?
